NATIONAL PROVIDER IDENTIFIER (NPI) FACTS:
Every health care provider must get and use the NPI number; this is required even if a health care provider is not conducting electronic transactions. The NPI will affect the appropriate payment of claims in a timely manner.
It is anticipated that health insurance entities and clearinghouses will request that providers send claims using their NPI number well before the final compliance date.
The National Provider Identifier (NPI) and new HCFA Form Updates are only available in Medisoft V11 SP3, V12, which were released during Q1, 2007.
